What Is Rapid Antibody Test for COVID-19 & Why It Is Important?

The rapid outbreak of COVID-19 continues to affect our lives. But our doctors, healthcare experts, and healthcare governing bodies have not given up. They continue to innovate and evolve various techniques to combat the virus and to prevent its further outbreak.

One such technique, or test is the Rapid Antibody Test. It is considered to be one of the most effective weapons in battling out the virus. So, what is a rapid antibody test, and why should it be done? Here’s a blog that answers these questions.

What is the Rapid Antibody Test?

The rapid antibody tests, which is also known as the serological test, involves checking the virus’s presence through a blood test. It can give results in just 10-15 minutes.

The test is quicker and can prove more effective than the existing methods that need 2-3 days to deliver the COVID-19 diagnostic reports. Nevertheless, the rapid antibody test is not confirmatory. Doctors can use it as a pre-screening test to determine how many people were exposed to the virus.

The test strip contains a colloidal gold-labeled recombinant novel coronavirus antigen and quality control antibody colloidal gold marker, two detection lines (G and M lines) and one quality control line (C) fixed on a nitrocellulose membrane. M is fixed with monoclonal anti-human IgM antibody for detecting the novel coronavirus IgM antibody. G is fixed with monoclonal antihuman IgG antibody for detecting the novel coronavirus IgG antibody. The quality control antibody is fixed on the C line.

Why is Rapid Antibody Test important?

According to some of the latest studies, it is the apparently healthy people who are increasingly becoming the carriers and spreaders of Coronavirus. Such people don’t show any clear symptoms. Hence, they may never know they are carrying the virus, and which can prove even more dangerous.

Undergoing a rapid antibody test, in this view, proves essential. It traces the present as well as the past presence of the virus in the body. When a seemingly healthy individual takes up the test, comes to know whether he is playing the role of a carrier by carrying the virus in his body, or had it in the past.

Besides, the quick results prove useful, as again, 24-48 hours (the wait time of the result with other test methods) is quite a long duration for further spread of the virus, and harmful for the individual and others around him as well.

As a responsible healthcare institution, at Ranka Hospitals, we conduct rapid antibody tests in the most appropriate and compliant manner. We follow the standard Coronavirus protocol within our premises to prevent its outbreak and keep our patients safe. In order to know more about the test, please call 7387601495.
